I will advocate for more Education Assistants, Teachers and Teachers-on-Call; exploring more local EA certification opportunities through post secondary partners (to replace what Capilano University used to provide here on the coast); address staffing shortages and “fail-to-fill” rates at a macro-level; and push for budget decisions that put resources where classrooms need them.

I support safe working environments for our Education Assistants and Teachers and thus safe learning environments for our Students. 

When there are enough EAs to meet student needs, students get the support they deserve and staff can do their jobs safely.

I truly believe that when we support the people who support our students, everyone benefits. I want to make sure that our School Board doesn't loose focus on this! 

I will ask for regular reporting on workplace injuries and sick leave trends, holding the district accountable for improving staff safety, and support budget decisions, including adequate custodial staffing, that create healthier and safe schools for everyone.

Continue to work towards a district that provides a learning environment that accommodates everyone. Every student deserves dignity, belonging, and meaningful access to learning. When support tools are normalized, the line between students who have accommodation and those who do not begins to disappear.

Expand opportunities in STEM, trades, arts, athletics, and gifted education, including more dual-credit and post-secondary partnerships. 

Explore partnerships that bring sports academies—such as hockey or soccer —to SD46, supporting student interests while attracting more students &/or families to the district in a time of declining enrollment.

Strengthen school food programs through exploring more funding options, encourage local sourcing where possible and community partnerships so that hunger is never a barrier to learning.

Uphold and advance the Board’s work to provide a learning environment free of discrimination for all students, and staff.
